Official safety recall for Suzuki Fronx after seatbelt failure sparks ‘urgent investigation’

The Suzuki Fronx has been recalled after crash testing revealed a rear seatbelt failure and a one-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), published yesterday, December 22, 2025.

Suzuki Australia has also issued a statement advising Fronx owners to immediately avoid using the rear seats.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the left rear seat belt retractor mechanism may not operate as intended. As a result, excessive belt lengths may be released in the event of an accident or hard braking,” said the official recall notice issued today.

“In the event of an accident or hard braking, if the left rear seat belt does not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupant.”

“Suzuki Motor Corporation and Suzuki Australia are undertaking immediate and urgent investigations,” the company said in a statement. “Upon the completion of the investigation Suzuki Motor Corporation and Suzuki Australia will facilitate further activities to ensure the safety of all listed vehicles.”

The Fronx, a new model in the Suzuki Australia line-up launched earlier this year, achieved a one-star rating in ANCAP testing, becoming the second Suzuki model to do so after the Swift hatchback in December 2024.

The Swift has since been upgraded with additional safety equipment, increasing its rating to three stars.
