Multiple Mazda models recalled

Mazda is recalling over 5000 examples of its CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 crossover SUVs as they may not display the correct fuel level.

The recall doesn’t include the CX-60, which shares its Large Architecture with the other three models.

“Due to a software programming issue of the Body Control Module (BCM), the instrument cluster fuel level may not operate as intended,” the company says in its recall notice.

“This may result in an incorrect display of fuel level and therefore the driver may not be aware when the fuel tank becomes empty.

“If the fuel tank becomes empty whilst driving, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power increasing the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

The recall only affects vehicles powered by the Skyactiv-G turbocharged 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine.

• A total of 5081CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 SUVs are affected, produced between 2023 and 2025

“Repair activity is currently under preparation,” the company says.

“Once the repair action is available, Mazda Australia will contact all affected customers to advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer to have the Body Control Module (BCM) updated with a revised software at no charge.”
