MG Motor Australia has cut list prices of its ZS EV electric SUV and HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV by up to $6000, depending on the model and variant.

The MG ZS EV range now starts at $40,990 before on-roads for the Excite, which is being retired, and extends to $49,990 before on-roads for the recently introduced Long Range.

In terms of drive-away pricing for the ZS EV, the entry-level Excite is down by between $1360 and $3385, depending on the state.

Drive-away pricing for the mid-range Essence is down between $2240 and $4544, while for the flagship Long Range it’s down $4000 and $6425.

This marks the second time ZS EV pricing has been cut in Australia this year, as there was an almost range-wide price adjustment back in July.

“MG continues to work with SAIC, our suppliers, dealer network and freight partners to reduce costs wherever possible,” said a spokesperson for MG Motor Australia.

“We are committed to helping more Australians to make the switch to EV sooner than later. Whenever we are able to pass price reductions onto our customers, we will make sure we do.”

The MG HS Plus EV range now starts at $48,990 drive-away for the Excite, and extends to $51,990 drive-away for the Essence. These models have received price cuts of $700 and $1700, respectively.

MG, along with other Chinese carmakers GWM and BYD, are currently in a price war to have the cheapest electric vehicles (EV) on sale in Australia.

It’s likely this latest price reduction for the ZS EV, as well as the HS Plus EV, is reflective of MG’s latest move to keep pricing competitive.

The MG 4, which hasn’t had its prices cut in this latest round, is one of Australia’s cheapest EVs, starting at $38,990 before on-roads for the Excite 51.

A new high-performance MG 4 variant, dubbed the XPower, was recently fast-tracked to Australian showrooms. It’s currently priced from $59,990 before on-roads.
