Kia PV7 electric van unveiled, confirmed for Australia

The Kia PV7 electric van has been unveiled the 2026 IAA Transportation truck show in Hanover, Germany, and has been confirmed for an Australian launch in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Naturally with the van's local debut over a year away, Australian specification and pricing hasn't been revealed. Indeed, with the van not set to go on sale in South Korea and Europe until the second half of 2027, Kia hasn't revealed all of the PV7's details.

At launch the PV7 will be available in the long body size, which measures 5350mm long, 1995mm wide, 1990mm tall, and riding on a 3500mm wheelbase. 

By way of comparison, the standard length PV5 sold in Australia is 4695mm long, 1895mm wide, 1905mm tall, and rides on a 2995mm wheelbase. Overseas the PV5 also has high roof and long body models, which add 295mm in height and 195mm in length, respectively.

PV7 Cargo models are available with either two or three seats up front, as well as the choice of barn doors or a lift-up tailgate. Using the VDA standard cargo volume is rated at 6100L for the long body model, and this grows to 8000L on high roof versions. 

The maximum payload is 1165kg for long body PV7s, while the lighter compact body can carry up to 1200kg of stuff. The long body version has a loading height of 550mm, and can hold up to three Euro pallets. 

There are seven-, nine- and 11-seat versions of the Passenger model. The nine-passenger model is available in either three- or four-row formats, while the 11-passenger variant will only be sold in South Korea. Seven-passenger versions have seats mounted on a long rail system and these seats can be removed.

Up front the PV7 can be specified with either a 12.9- or 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running the automaker's latest Pleos operating system.

The van supports remote fleet management software that can perform real-time monitoring, keep tab of charging needs, and provide predictive diagnostics and maintenance.

Available safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, navigation-based smart cruise control, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system. Passenger models are available with rear climate controls, 100W USB-C ports, and storage solutions.

At launch all versions of the PV7 will have a 200kW/420Nm electric motor driving the front wheels, which is paired to either a 71.5kWh or a 96.2kWh battery, both of which employ a nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) chemistry.

The PV7 Cargo Long Range model is said to have a driving range of over 460km using the WLTP standard. 

The PV7 is based on the E-GMP.S architecture and features an 800V electrical system that supports DC fast charging up to 350kW.

An AC/DC charging port up front is standard, while an additional AC charging point at the rear being an optional extra. With vehicle-to-load functionality the PV7 can be power appliances, tools or charge various pieces of equipment.

Kia says there will be short body and all-wheel drive models available down the track. An even larger PV9 will be launched in 2029.
