The new FL5 Honda Civic Type R is more sedately styled than its predecessor, and if that’s not your cup of tea then Mugen has something for you.

The Honda tuner and parts manufacturer has teased ‘Group A’ and ‘Group B’ body kits for the hot hatch which it will debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon, set to begin on January 12, 2024.

The Group A body kit features an aggressive, black front splitter and changes to the air curtains. It has been fitted with silver wheels and extended carbon-fibre side skirts, while the rear has a new spoiler.

In developing the body kit, Mugen has used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, essentially computerised wind testing to improve aerodynamics.

The Group B body kit receives fender vents and a carbon-fibre bonnet lid which features a few more vents.

At the rear, Mugen has implemented a similar rear spoiler to the Group A bodykit and the company says it’s developing a sporty exhaust system with a choice of either a stainless steel or titanium finish.

Mugen has made changes to the brake pads, rotor and brake lines. The car also gets upgraded suspension and forged 19-inch BBS wheels.

Inside, there’s an updated steering wheel, upgraded full bucket seats and a unique gear knob. The centre console features a carbon-fibre panel.

Pricing for the body kits will be announced at the motor show, with the Group B expected to be the pricier of the two.
