Did you know the Holden Commodore was available with electric power? Well no, it wasn’t, but according to Gumtree’s latest outdoor ad campaign it was.
In ads on bus stops and billboards spotted in south-east Queensland, we can see an image of a Holden ZB Commodore labelled ‘EV’.

It sits above a Mercedes-Benz GLB, correctly labelled as an SUV.
As is typical for these types of advertisements, all have had their badges removed.
The spotted ads are part of a nationwide ad campaign launched in August, which suggests the mistake has appeared in hundreds of locations.
In a post on LinkedIn, Gumtree Group says its latest advertising campaign will be seen across more than 1000 bus shelters nationwide, as well as over 200 ‘large format sites’.
There are 12 different ‘outdoor executions’, with one of these being the aforementioned ‘EV, SUV, RV’ ads. It also posted an image of a large billboard depicting the mistake.
The ZB Commodore range – including Calais-badged variants – was offered here with a choice of three engines: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, and a 3.6-litre petrol V6.
Even in other markets, where the ZB Commodore was sold as a Buick Regal, Opel Insignia and Vauxhall Insignia, there was no electric powertrain.
Nor were there conventional hybrids or plug-in hybrids available. These powertrain types are sometimes labelled as ‘EVs’, for example on number plates.
