Great Wall Motor has just revealed a dream ute with its 6-wheeler CyberPickup concept at the 2023 Shanghai motor show.
The plug-in hybrid Cannon 6×6 ute – which has a 50km pure electric range – has certainly caught our attention and will no doubt be highly desirable for anyone that needs the extra load and towing capacity.

CarExpert has been told the vehicle has already been homologated for the Chinese market for 3.5-tonne towing with potential to go up to 6 tonnes for special purposes.
GWM will also build a 4×4 version of the new pickup and although this particular example has been built by GWM’s co-creation group, which works with aftermarket partners to create products and concepts, we are told it will 100 per cent head to production regardless, in both 6×6 and 4×4 versions.
We sure hope so! The local word from GWM is that it’s definitely under consideration.

“The local team always keeps a close eye on new models and concepts that might be of interest for the Australian market. The Cannon 6×6 has certainly caught our eye,” said a spokesperson for GWM Australia.
“While we can confirm that it’s intended for full production, we’ll need to see whether it’s viable for Australia. The potential for the large pickup segment is something that we’re very aware of so let’s watch this space…”
That’s definitely not a no and we certainly hope it becomes a yes in time.
