The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD has been recalled in Australia after it was discovered the pickup's airbags could project metal shrapnel.

The Walkinshaw Group has recalled three Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HDs, due to a fault which could cause their airbags to project metal shrapnel when deployed.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the left and right-side roof-rail airbag inflator end cap may separate or the inflator sidewall could fracture. As a result, the airbag inflators may rupture,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.
“If the airbag inflators rupture, compressed gas and metal fragments may be propelled through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or death.”
