Get ready for Australia’s most comprehensive 4WD SUV test.
We put 12 cars through their paces across five days, at two proving ground locations, to discover which is the most capable off-road, which is the best at towing, and which offers the best performance.
Each of our competitors is available with seven seats, and features low-range. All are capable of towing more than 2.8 tonnes with a braked trailer.
They’re far from carbon copies of each other, though. Prices range from around $50,000 to north of $210,000 before on-road costs, and we have a combination of four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines drinking either petrol or diesel.

The full list of competitors is below:
We tried to source an LDV D90 for this test but LDV declined to be involved. Land Rover tried but was unable to supply a Discovery, Range Rover, or Range Rover Sport for testing due to clashing events.
We’ll be rolling out videos and written breakdowns of the tests over the coming weeks, culminating with an overall winner on Monday, June 19.
In the meantime, enjoy a brief taste of what’s to come in the video above.
