Almost every Mercedes-Benz X-Class dual-cab ute recalled

Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling its now-defunct X-Class ute as the rear window may shatter.

This recall affects 5889X-Class models built between 2018 and 2019 – almost every single model that was sold over its roughly two-year lifespan in Australia.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear window may have pressure on it as a seal has shrunk causing the window to shatter,” said the company in its recall notice.

“In the event of glass breakage, it would break into small, compact pieces. This could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you should contact your nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free fix as soon as possible.

Mercedes-Benz notes that if your affected vehicle was fitted with a genuine canopy, the dealer will check whether rubber blocks were installed in the rear area of the canopy.
