Alleged drug driver charged after driving wrong way on busy highway

Queensland Police has charged a man with multiple offences after he allegedly drove the wrong way on a highway while on drugs.

On March 20, police were called to the Bruce Highway near Elimbah – about 65km north of Brisbane – after receiving multiple reports of a Nissan Navara driving north in the southbound lanes.

The Nissan was found stopped on the on-ramp at Steve Irwin Way, however the driver allegedly drove around police and back onto the highway.

Two hours later, police received more calls that the Navara was being driven dangerously along the D’Aguilar Highway at Moore, with the ute spotted shortly after on the same road, before the driver turned back onto the highway.

He eventually came to a stop, where the 32-year-old allegedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine during a roadside drug test.

He was subsequently charged with six offences, which included:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle 
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected
• Driving with relevant drug present in blood
• Evading police
• Driving while unlicensed (two counts)

The man was due to face court last week, however the outcome of his appearance is as-yet unknown.
