Alfa Romeo says it’s comfortable with its small network of dealerships in Australia, but won’t rule out a future expansion.

“We currently do have eight dealerships across Australia pretty much in every state and territory,” said Bridget Thompson, Alfa Romeo Australia’s product manager of small and compact segments, to CarExpert.

“We’re really comfortable that we’ve got the right dealerships in the right place right now. But definitely won’t rule out any further network development.”

Despite a dealer network that’s smaller than that of most other brands, a spokesperson from Alfa Romeo Australia told CarExpert “we are happy with our growth”.

Alfa Romeo’s Australian website says it currently has nine sales locations and 18 service centres across the country.

Other lower-volume European and British brands like Peugeot and Jaguar have a wider dealership network in Australia, though Alfa Romeo has one more sales location than Citroen.

Alfa Romeo also narrowly beats out fellow Stellantis brand Maserati, which has eight sales and service locations across Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Queensland.

In contrast, Jaguar, which sold fewer vehicles than Alfa Romeo in 2023, has 26 sales locations and 10 dedicated service centres around Australia.

According to VFACTS sales data, Alfa Romeo delivered 716 vehicles in 2023 – an increase of 25.4 per cent on the year before.

This growth has been fuelled by the new Tonale, with its 365 sales accounting for more than 50 per cent of Alfa Romeo’s total volume in 2023.

Alfa Romeo also sold 184 Giulias and 167 Stelvios over the same period, but these models were down 35.9 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively.

“We’re pleased with where the brand is growing. Being up 25 per cent is a lot of growth for us,” an Alfa Romeo Australia spokesperson told CarExpert.

“I think it just shows as well the brand, it’s such a different brand, as far as with the design and being able to buy into an Italian brand at the price points that we’ve been able to get.”
