Skoda has given its best-known car in Australia, the Octavia, more standard equipment and a slight price bump for 2022.

The base Ambition liftback now has keyless entry and roller sun blinds for rear passengers.

UPDATE, 24/02/2022 Due to the global semiconductor shortage, Skoda Australia has temporarily removed certain features from the Octavia sedan and wagon.

The current missing features include a range of premium Canton sound systems and semi-autonomous parking assist.

Skoda Australia is currently offering all owners of affected vehicles a credit as compensation. It also expects the restored specifications to return by the 2023 model year change, which is around June 2022.

UPDATE, 02/02/2022Prices have been increased once again by $1000 across the entire range. There have been no further spec changes.

“The brand absorbed price increase pressures throughout 2021, but at some point these have to be passed on,” said a Skoda Australia spokesperson.

“Essentially the price rises are due to both inflation and significant increases in manufacturing costs.”

Pricing now starts at $37,490 drive-away for the 110TSI Ambition sedan, and extends to $56,490 drive-away for the RS wagon.

Under the skin, the Octavia shares its bones with the Volkswagen Golf. Power in the 110TSI models comes from the same 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine featured in the Golf, mated with an eight-speed torque converter automatic.

The new 140TSI Limited Edition has more power and torque from its 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, while the Octavia RS packs a Golf GTI-matching 2.0-litre engine and the associated performance hardware.

Both Octavia models major on practicality. The sedan is actually a liftback, while the wagon has a whopping 640L of boot space.

    All prices are drive-away.

Power in the Skoda Octavia 110TSI comes from a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque.

It’s sent to the front wheels through an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission, rather than the dual-clutch (DSG) transmission of its predecessor.

    Moving to the 140TSI gets you a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol with 140kW and 320Nm, mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive.

The range-topping Octavia RS draws on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 180kW of power and 370Nm of torque.

It’s also front-wheel drive, but uses a seven-speed (wet) dual-clutch transmission and has an electronically-locking front differential to help it put the power down.

    Fuel Economy

The Skoda Octavia 110TSI sedan uses a claimed 5.7L/100km on the combined cycle, and the wagon uses 5.9L/100km.

The Octavia 140TSI sedan uses a claimed 6.1L/100km, the wagon uses 6.2L/100km on the combined cycle.

The Octavia RS uses a claimed 6.8L/100km across both body styles.

The 2022 Skoda Octavia measures 4689mm long, 1829mm wide and 1470mm tall in sedan guise, and 1468mm tall in wagon guise.

All Octavia models ride on a 2686mm wheelbase.

Boot space in the sedan (which is a liftback, or hatchback, despite the official billing) is 600L, and the wagon has 640L of space.

    Servicing and Warranty

Maintenance in the Skoda Octavia is required every 12 months or 15,000km.

    A pre-paid three-year service pack costs $1400, a five-year pack costs $1550, and a seven-year pack costs $2400.

Like the wider Skoda range, the Octavia is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Vehicles purchased with a seven-year service package before the end of 2021 also get a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty as part of a Skoda Australia offer.

The 2022 Skoda Octavia has a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
