The entire BMW X2 range has seen a $1000 price increase for 2021, though it’s otherwise unchanged.

The base sDrive18i costs $49,900 before on-road costs, with the range topping out at $73,900 before on-roads for the M35i.

A sportier-looking Mesh Edition, based on the sDrive20i, is due here in 2021. Pricing has yet to be revealed.

Related to the more upright BMW X1, the X2 also competes in the popular small luxury SUV segment. Its main competition consists of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3 Sportback.

It lives in the shadow of its more practical X1 sibling. Last year, BMW sold 617 X2s against 3060 examples of its X1. The X1 was also outsold by its Mini Countryman platform-mate (926 units) and the Jaguar E-Pace (662).

The sDrive20i steps up to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine and produces 141kW and 280Nm. It, too, uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is also front-wheel drive.

The all-wheel drive M35i and M35i Pure upgrade to a more potent 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which pushes out 225kW and 450Nm. Both models are all-wheel drive and use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2021 BMW X2 uses 6.3L/100km on the combined cycle in sDrive18i guise, 6.0L/100km in the sDrive20i and 7.4L/100km in the M35i.

All BMW X2 models have a 51L fuel tank. M35i and M35i Pure models require 98RON premium unleaded fuel, while the rest of the range runs on 95RON premium unleaded.
