Man banned from driving for more than 90 years caught behind the wheel

A New South Wales man who was already disqualified from driving until 2117 is facing further delays to getting his licence back, after once again being caught behind the wheel.

On Sunday, March 9, officers from the Bathurst Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a Subaru for a random breath test on William Street.

The 73-year-old driver was quickly recognised as a “long-term disqualified driver”, with his licence disqualified until 2117 – 92 years from now.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station, where he was charged with driving while disqualified.

His bail was refused and he was issued with a number plate confiscation notice for driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period – his third such offence in five years.

While New South Wales residents can face up to six months’ imprisonment for first-time driving while disqualified offences, two or more offences can bring prison terms of up to 12 months.
