Google Gemini coming to Cadillac range, Chevrolet Corvette in Australia

General Motors (GM) vehicles are set to be among the first in Australia to feature embedded Google Gemini.

The AI assistant was recently rolled out to Android Auto users in Australia, but the upgrade for select GM vehicles will see it included as an embedded app within Google Built-in. In short, you won’t need to connect your phone to be able to use it.

GM says Google Gemini will start being deployed to vehicles in Australia from today, but “rollout will be gradual, ramping up to all eligible users in the coming months”.

It’ll be available in eligible model year 2025 (MY25) and newer Cadillac electric SUVs – the Optiq, Lyriq and Vistiq – as well as the recently updated MY26 Chevrolet Corvette. The Chevrolet Silverado and Silverado HD and GMC Yukon Denali aren't eligible for the upgrade.

To use Gemini in your GM vehicle, you’ll need to have an active Connected Services complimentary trial. All Cadillacs and all MY26 Corvettes come with an eight-year complimentary trial for connected services.

You’ll also need to be signed into a Google account, have opted into Gemini, and be using an available language as your assistant language.

Supported languages include Arabic, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.

Google Gemini represents a significant improvement over the traditional Google Assistant, and allows you to converse more freely instead of relying on a set of simple commands.

“With Gemini, you can speak naturally without memorising commands or repeating context. Ask for music that fits your mood, the scenery, or the length of your trip. Talk to Gemini about the landscape or landmarks as you drive past,” explains GM.

“You can debate big ideas, explore random curiosities, and even send texts translated in different languages – all while keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.”

As an example, you can ask it to help you plan a more efficient route, find an affordable restaurant, or even explain concepts or your surroundings.

All GM vehicles with Google Built-in sold in Australia already feature Android Auto, which recently received Google Gemini as part of an update.

While Google Built-in is an increasingly common feature among new cars in Australia, integrating a suite of Google apps including Google Maps, few brands have confirmed they’re launching Google Gemini integration.

Volvo confirmed last May it was introducing Google Gemini to our market, which was due by the end of 2025. However, it has yet to appear. Sister brand Polestar has also confirmed the AI assistant is coming, but hasn't provided timing for our market.

Other brands that use Google Built-in in Australia include Honda and Renault, neither of which have confirmed when they'll offer Gemini connectivity.
