Aston Martin Valhalla Spider unveiled as brand's fastest open-top car

The Aston Martin Valhalla Spider has the coupe's V8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain, but adds a big dose of wind-in-the-hair excitement.

The new Aston Martin Valhalla Spider promises a view of the heavens, as well as the company's fastest open-air experience.

Like the coupe, the Valhalla Spider has a V8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Nestled behind the passenger cell is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 making 609kW of power and 868Nm of torque.

It drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a built-in electric motor, and an electronic limited-slip differential. There are two electric motors up front, and all three electric motors are powered by a 6.1kWh battery pack.

When everything is working together the total system output is 793kW and 1100Nm.

Aston Martin is aiming for the Spider to have a 0-100km/h time of 2.5 seconds, and a top speed of 350km/h, which, incidentally, are exactly the same performance figures generated by the coupe. The automaker says the Valhalla Spider will be its fastest-ever open-top production car.

It should be noted that the Spider can hit its 350km/h top speed either when it's topless, or the optional carbon-fibre hardtop is fitted.

There's a standard fabric top that can be manually folded up and removed for storage, but when it's being used to block out the elements, the car's top speed is limited to a mere 200km/h. The Spider comes with a wind deflector to reduce cabin turbulence, but it has to be manually installed by the driver.

A new Touring seat that's said to make ingress and egress easier with the roof up, as well as being more comfortable to sit in, is standard on the Spider, although buyers can elect to fit the grippier seats from the coupe.

The Valhalla's active aerodynamics and electronic stability control programs have been updated to automatically adjust to the different airflow patterns generated by covered and uncovered motoring.

As with the coupe, the Spider has dihedral doors that swing up, although without a permanent roof, and the window glass is now frameless. Aston Martin says it has refined the kinematics of the doors for a "smoother operation".

The Valhalla Spider will make its in-the-metal global debut at a concours in Las Vegas ahead of the 2026 SEMA show.

While the coupe's production run is limited to 999 cars, Aston Martin has yet to detail how many Spiders it intends to make. The first customer deliveries are expected to occur during the third quarter of 2027.
