Alpine has teased the upcoming time attack version of its A110 coupe that has been designed specifically for the this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23.

Called the A110 GT4 Evo, this hardcore time attack racer will compete in the Time Attack 1 category at the historic event known affectionally as “the race to the clouds”.

It will be driven by French driver Raphaël Astier who was the winner of the 2022 FIA R-GT Cup in an Alpine A110 Rally racer, and has previously competed in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb three times.

The French carmaker hasn’t revealed much information about the A110 GT4 Evo besides saying it has focused on the car’s aerodynamics and it will remain rear-wheel drive.

Power hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the most powerful road-going A110 is currently powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 221kW of power and 340Nm of torque.

Alpine has shown off a single teaser photo of the A110 GT4 Evo teasing its side profile. It looks quite similar to the recently-revealed A110 R but has an exaggerated spoiler with a central fin.

As previously reported, Alpine withdrew the regular A110 from the Australian market in late 2021 as it doesn’t conform to the latest side-impact design rules.

Alpine is planning on going all-electric by the middle of the decade and recently showed off its A110 E-ternité “rolling laboratory” concept which uses the same battery modules as the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.

The brand plans to reveal an electric replacement for the current A110 mid-decade which will be built in partnership with British sports car specialist Lotus, using the brand’s new E-Sport electric platform.

Alpine is also planning to launch a high-performance electric crossover called the GT X-Over, and a hotter version of the upcoming Renault 5 EV. All three of these EVs will be launched by 2026.
