2026 Chery C5 and E5 price and specs: Hybrid joins small SUV range

Chery has added a second small hybrid SUV to its lineup, with a petrol-electric version of its C5 arriving in showrooms this month.

The Chery C5 Hybrid is being introduced in two trims: the Urban, priced at $31,990 drive-away; and the Ultimate, at $34,990 drive-away.

The petrol-powered C5 is now available only in a single Urban trim, now $1000 cheaper at $28,990 drive-away. The petrol Ultimate has been axed, with runout stock priced at $32,990 drive-away.

The new hybrid variants slot in neatly between the aforementioned petrol Urban, and the electric E5 Ultimate at $37,990 drive-away.

They look identical to the petrol C5, apart from new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs.

The C5 relaunched the Chery brand in Australia back in 2023, though it was previously called the Omoda 5.

It was renamed C5 in 2025, with the electric E5 dropping its Omoda prefix at the same time. This was done to reduce confusion as Chery launched its Omoda brand, which is now part of Omoda Jaecoo.

Servicing and Warranty

The Chery C5 and E5 are backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, with hybrid and electric variants also offered with an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.

Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km with the petrol and hybrid C5, and 12 months or 20,000km with the electric E5.

The Chery C5 has a five-star rating from independent safety authority ANCAP, though this currently applies only to the petrol C5 and electric E5.

Based on testing conducted of the Omoda 5 in 2022, the petrol C5 and electric E5 have an adult occupant protection rating of 87 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 88 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 68 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 83 per cent.
