2025 MG Cyberster: Australian orders open for electric roadster

Pre-orders have opened for the MG Cyberster, the brand’s first electric convertible, ahead of its Australian launch later this year.

The electric droptop will arrive in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2024, and you can now register your interest for the vehicle.

The company has yet to confirm pricing, other than to say the before on-road costs price will fall between $100,000 and $150,000 – making it far and away MG’s most expensive model in Australia yet.

MG has also yet to detail local specifications, but has confirmed it’s looking to bring only the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant to Australia with a 77kWh battery.

This produces 400kW of power and 725Nm of torque, giving the Cyberster a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds.

Claimed WLTP range is 444km.

In other markets, there’s a single-motor rear-wheel drive variant with 231kW and 475Nm.

“We will be bringing limited numbers of these cars into the country so it’ll definitely be a case of supply versus demand given the interest we’ve already had from the public and our 90+ dealers,” said MG Motor Australia national sales manager Brad Chruszcz.

The Cyberster will be offered in Australia with either a deep red or black roof, with a choice of five exterior colours. These are:

• Beige
• Grey
• Silver
• Red (with black roof only)
• Yellow (with black roof only)

MG will offer a choice of two tone-interiors: black and red, or white and grey.

The Cyberster will have little in the way of direct competition, though Alpine and Lotus both plan to enter the electric roadster space.

Porsche will debut an electric replacement for its current Boxster within the next 12 months.
