Honda Australia has confirmed the pricing of the Toyota RAV4-rivalling ZR-V mid-sized SUV with deposits now able to be taken ahead of its on-sale date of May 19.

Due to launch in the coming months, the Honda ZR-V range starts at $40,200 drive-away for the VTi X, and extends to $54,900 drive-away for the e:HEV LX hybrid flagship. A full pricing list is at the bottom of this story.

For context, the Toyota RAV4 range currently starts at $38,050 before on-road costs for the GX Auto 2WD, and extends to $56,650 before on-road costs for the Edge AWD Hybrid.

The smaller Honda HR-V starts at $36,700 drive-away for the Vi X, and extends to $47,000 drive-away for the hybrid e:HEV L.

As previously detailed, the Honda ZR-V is available with four trim levels, including a top-spec e:HEV hybrid version sporting the same drivetrain as the related Civic e:HEV.

The majority of the range is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the e:HEV uses a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine teamed with a two-motor hybrid system.

In the related Civic, the 1.5-litre turbo generates 131kW and 240Nm, while the e:HEV makes a beefier 135kW and 315Nm. It appears both of these powertrains will only be available with front-wheel drive.

This is the first time we’ve seen Honda Australia offer one of its new models with more than one trim level for a single powertrain variant.

While defined as an SUV, a recent Honda’s media release said the ZR-V “sits lower than most SUVs for a sedan-like driving position but without compromising on visibility”.

“The new SUV also offers a variety of storage spaces, with the floor of the boot featuring a flat design.”

    Equipment highlights for Australia include:

    • 1.5L turbo engine and CVT (VTi grades only)
    • 17-inch alloy wheels (VTi X)
    • 18-inch alloy wheels (VTi L, VTi LX, e:HEV LX)
    • Honda Sensing
      • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
      • Adaptive cruise control
      • Traffic sign recognition
    • 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay
    • Wired Android Auto
    • LED headlights incl. Adaptive Driving Beam
    • Front, rear parking sensors

Honda Australia has confirmed the ZR-V will be available in five exterior paint colours, depending on the variant.

These five colours include Crystal Black, Platinum Grey, Platinum Crystal Blue, Platinum White, and Premium Crystal Garnet.

The entry-level VTi X variant isn’t available with Premium Crystal Blue or Crystal Black.

The 2023 Honda ZR-V range is priced as follows:

    • 2023 Honda ZR-V VTi X: $40,200
    • 2023 Honda ZR-V VTi L: $43,200
